Happy Thanksgiving!
First and foremost, we want to express our gratitude to the entire Gainesville community. Thank you for trusting us; we are so happy to be a part of this community. Thanksgiving is all about appreciating the things around you and celebrating with your community and family. This year, we wanted to look at how our team celebrates Thanksgiving.
Our attorneys are excited about celebrating this holiday, and no two Thanksgivings will look the same this year. Let’s check in to see what everyone is doing.
On the Road Again
Paul Brockway’s grown daughters will be out of town, so he and his wife are planning a trip to St. Augustine or Savannah. Either way, a coastal holiday away will be just the thing to celebrate Thanksgiving. “Normally, we just stay home and eat too much,” he said. But there will be plenty of incredible restaurants to explore.
Place Your Bets
For Nick Zissimopulos, the day starts with a jog to burn calories and make room for all the food. Then he’ll look at the NFL games for the day, including the Detroit Lions versus the Green Bay Packers, so that he can bet quarters with his kids. “Somehow, I avoid eating throughout the day, so I really stuff myself around 3 pm.” It’s a beautiful meal with the whole family, followed by passing out from too much food and being woken up by cheers during the games. And, of course, if anyone needs legal advice, Nick will be answering the holiday phone calls for Glassman & Zissimopulos Law.
Cooking, Shopping, and Attractions Oh My
John Kelly’s wife will work as a physical therapist at Shands Hospital during the day, so “I will be doing my best not to burn the house down as I cook for my family and hers.” Then, he likes to knock out Christmas shopping for his many nieces and nephews on Black Friday. On Saturday, they head to Universal in Orlando to meet up with friends visiting Florida for the holiday.
A Grown-Up Holiday
Dan Glassman always has a big Thanksgiving. “This year will be a little different as it is the first time my kids will bring their significant others.” His sister and her son are coming from San Francisco, too. Since it was only family before, he could always relax and enjoy the day. Now that new people are joining for the first time, he’s a little nervous.
“I have been told that I am not allowed to embarrass my children. I have successfully graduated from undergrad and law school with honors. I have worked as a lawyer for thirty years, successfully litigating cases. Through all of this, the one thing I have never been able to successfully navigate is figuring out how not to be embarrassing to my children. While I will do my best, I think that, like the Turkey, I am cooked!”
We want to hear from you. Are you traveling or staying home? How are you celebrating Thanksgiving in Gainesville?
